Building Trades Employers' Association

Membership in the MCA includes membership in The Building Trades Employers' Association, an industry wide umbrella association of 24 trade contractor associations, representing 1,500 construction managers, general contractors and specialty subcontractor firms in New York City.  BTEA members range in size from multi-billion dollar internationally recognized firms to small and mid-sized specialty trade contracting firms.  The BTEA advocates that the construction industry is essential to the economic and social fabric of New York City.


Department of Buildings (DOB)

The Department of Buildings oversees building construction and alteration, and enforces the Building and Electrical Codes; the Zoning Resolution; the State Multiple Dwelling Law; and energy, safety, labor, and other laws related to construction activity. The Department has jurisdiction over more than 800,000 buildings, and its role includes the approval, permitting, and inspection of construction work, plumbing, elevators, electrical wiring, and boilers, as well as the licensing of trades people. The Department also regularly inspects major new buildings under construction for compliance with public safety regulations. The Department protects the public by assuring that work under its jurisdiction meets code standards and is performed by properly licensed and insured individuals.


Department of Design and Construction

The Department of Design and Construction delivers the City's construction projects in an expeditious, cost-effective manner, while maintaining the highest degree of architectural, engineering, and construction quality. The Department uses in-house resources and private consultants and contractors to perform design and construction services related to streets and highways, sewers, water mains, correctional and court facilities; cultural institutions; libraries; schools; and other public buildings, facilities and structures. The Department coordinates a wide variety of construction projects with utilities, community representatives and private industry, thus minimizing the disruption to individual neighborhoods as well as reducing the costs associated with such projects.


Department of Environmental Protection

The City of New York Department of Environmental Protection delivers drinking water to over 9 million state residents – more than 1.1 billion gallons a day.  Within the City, the Department operates over 13,000 miles of water mains and sewers. And to protect the environment of our surrounding waterways, the Department operates 14 treatment plants capable of processing over 1.3 billion gallons of wastewater a day.  In addition, the Department enforces the City’s Noise, Air and Hazardous Materials Code.


Fire Department (FDNY)

The Fire Department protects the life and property of city residents and visitors from fire and critical health threats through its five primary operations: response to fire emergencies; response to medical emergencies; fire prevention, including code enforcement, building and other inspections; criminal and cause-and-origin investigation; and public fire safety education. In addition, the Fire Department is responsible for the separate but related functions of responding to calls regarding building collapses, hazardous material incidents, vehicular accidents, water main breaks, utility emergencies, and other non-fire emergencies.


Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA)

The Mechanical Contractors Association of America is MCA of New York's parent organization. Formed in 1889, this Association today is 2000 members strong. A combination of educational programs, business partnerships, government relations programs, networking opportunities, award-winning safety initiatives and regular communications keep members on the cutting edge of developments in the mechanical contracting industry.


National Electric Contractors Association

The National Electrical Contractors Association, founded in 1901, is the leading representative of a segment of the construction market comprised of over 70,000 electrical contracting firms. The industry employs over 650,000 electrical workers and produces an annual volume of over $65 billion. NECA includes 118 U.S. chapters in addition to others in countries around the world.


National Fire Sprinkler Association

The National Fire Sprinkler Association aims to create a market for the widespread acceptance of competently installed automatic fire sprinkler systems in both new and existing construction, from homes to high-rise.


New York Building Congress

The New York Building Congress is a broad based membership association celebrating its 80th year. The New York Building Congress is committed to promoting the growth and success of the construction industry in New York City and its environs.

New York City Housing Authority

The New York City Housing Authority provides decent and affordable housing in a safe and secure living environment for low and moderate-income residents throughout the five boroughs.  To fulfill this mission, NYCHA must preserve its aging housing stock through timely maintenance and modernization of its developments.  NYCHA also administers a citywide Section 8 Leased Housing Program in rental apartments.  Simultaneously, the Department works to enhance the quality of life of residents by offering opportunities to participate in a multitude of community, educational and recreational programs, as well as job readiness and training initiatives.

Plumbing Foundation

The Plumbing Foundation City of New York Inc., established in 1986, is a nonprofit association of licensed contracting firms, engineering associations, manufacturers and suppliers whose mission is to insure the public health through the enactment and enforcement of safe plumbing codes. In connection with that mission we regularly meet with legislative and regulatory bodies that pass laws and promulgate regulations which affect the plumbing industry. We also work with various city agencies to try to reduce unneeded bureaucratic steps and paperwork that increase costs to the consumer with no public health benefit.


Port Authority of New York & New Jersey

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey manages and maintains the bridges, tunnels, bus terminals, airports, PATH and seaport that are critical to the bi-state region's trade and transportation capabilities. The PANYNJ identifies and meets the critical transportation infrastructure needs of the region's businesses, residents, and visitors: providing the highest quality, most efficient transportation and port commerce facilities and services that move people and goods within the region, providing access to the rest of the nation and to the world, and strengthening the economic competitiveness of the New York-New Jersey metropolitan region.


School Construction Authority

The New York City School Construction Authority was established to design, construct and report on all capital projects for the NYC Department of Education and is dedicated to the safe, high-quality and cost-effective construction of educational facilities for the children of New York City.  The SCA regularly reviews design standards in order to construct safe, functional, durable and attractive new school buildings while containing costs.  The SCA applies top quality standards of safety, functionality, efficiency and integrity to the rehabilitation and upgrading of existing school facilities.


Steamfitters Industry Fund Office

The Steamfitters Industry Fund Office is in charge of the Industry Funds. The Funds are employee benefit programs providing pension and welfare benefits to the 6,000 active and returned members of Steamfitters Local 638, their dependents and beneficiaries. These programs include both the Construction and Metal Trades Branches of Local Union 638. The purpose of this site is to provide plan participants with information regarding these funds, including summary plan descriptions, benefit forms, current fund news and other documents that may be useful to the Funds participants.
